In my spare time, I have been reading the works of Marcos Mateu-mestre in his book 'Framed ink'. Marcos is a visual concept, traditional animation layout and graphic novel artist with more than 20 years of experience. His book covers in detail various approaches to illustrative conveyance and the effects composition and lighting has when arranging an animation or illustration.
Reflecting upon the wise knowledge of this senior professional as well as utilising my mood board reference I designed 8 potential compositions that I could utilise when creating my background illustration. The concepts I have come up with are as follows:
As a creative
it is important to not settle with the first idea, as it nearly always is not
the best when exploration occurs. Although the context of my narrative has not
yet been finalized. I am aware that I require a table, cat/cat bed and a vase. As
well as an entrance and exit to a gardenlike location. When exploring these
ideas, It was my attempt to experiment with how different layouts and arrangements
had different psychological effects on the viewer.
Upon much iteration,
I have concluded that the sketch I shall be moving ahead with is my sixth
design. I have chosen this due to the nature of the dynamic view that the
camera angle appears to convey. The table been close pulls the focus and the
attention of the viewer towards it, giving it importance. But at the same time
the scale and size of the room is also iterated. I am happy with using this
design continuing onward.
